Diadora - Where does the brand name actually originate from? The word actually comes from the Greek “dia-dorea”, which roughly translates as generosity and the willingness to share. Diadora was established in Italy in 1948 and initially only produced hiking boots. In the 1960s switched its focus more towards sports - or more precisely ski boots, tennis shoes, running shoes and the matching performance clothing. In the 70s Diadora discovered sports marketing, in that they managed to acquire sporting champions as brand ambassadors – for instance tennis players Björn Borg and Guillermo Vilas and footballer Roberto Bettega. As is also the case with other major brands, the topic of running" was and is at the very top of Diadora's agenda - the N9000, the S8000 and the V7000 are running shoes that even today perform exceptionally well as retro models. Incidentally: Diadora is the only Italian sports shoe manufacturer that still produces in Italy.
