Saucony - Running in its genes since 1898

1896: The first Olympic Marathon in Athens. 1897: The first Boston Marathon. 1898: Saucony is founded in Kutztown, Pennsylvania. If that doesn't tell you something, what else is there to say? Just ten years after its founding, Saucony was producing 800 pairs of shoes per day in its factory at Saucony Creek – this also explains the brand name and the Saucony Logo, which shows a river with three boulders. In the beginning running shoes, and not just those produced by Saucony, featured simple designs: a leather upper, a thin, hard sole and pointed spikes. In 1958 Saucony made a game-changing introduction with the 7446 Spike, which was made from light kangaroo leather – however, this was just the beginning as ten years later the company relocated to Cambridge in Massachusetts, a suburb of Boston, and it was only then that Saucony really got going. Running was becoming increasingly popular, before finally reaching its peak in the 1970s, and Saucony quickly progressed from an insider tip to one of the most popular manufacturers there was. Saucony of course still produces running shoes today, however, it is the retro models in particular, such as the Shadow 6000 or the Grid SD, that it is hard to imagine life without.
