In 2009, Nicolas Mermoud and Jean-Luc Diard found the brand Hoka One One – or Hoka for short. The initial vision of the two is simple, but equally radical: to develop a shoe for trail and endurance runners, with which one can progress better and faster downhill, generate momentum and thus save energy. The idea: lots of cushioning, a wide, thick sole construction, stability, lightweight materials, and a curved rocker in the midsole that prevents the foot from landing flat. The result: the first Hoka running shoe that also quickly finds its way from the trails to the streets and roads. Because what works for runners downhill off-road works for all runners, no matter the surface. This DNA can still be found in every Hoka running shoe to this day – whether it's for competitions, trails or simply for a quick run.
