The long history of Converse began in the year 1908 in Malden, Massachusetts – at that point under the name of the Converse Rubber Shoe Company. Their speciality: winterproof shoes. It was shortly thereafter that they fell upon the idea of including shoes made from canvas in their product range. In 1917 the time had finally arrived: the Converse All Star was "born" - at this point still without the name "Chuck Taylor" added. The man in question, Charles H. „Chuck“ Taylor was actually a basketball player with a few good ideas, who was promptly hired by Converse as a promoter and representative. The new and improved Converse All Star with increased flexibility and the now world famous "ankle patch" was finally given the name "Chuck Taylor All Star". The rest is history and the basic design remains unchanged since 1949 - with the lateral ventilation eyelets having been added since those early days, for example. 2003 Converse were bought over by NIKE, who in 2015 spruced the "Chuck“ up a little, without doing away with the legendary style: the "Chuck II" scored points with a cushioned Lunarlon insole and a non-slip lining among other features. The future? We can afford to get excited about what Converse will present to us in the coming years.
