A Bathing Ape originated in Harajuku, a neighborhood in Shibuya, Tokyo - the birthplace of Japanese streetwear. After years of working at Popeye magazine, which is mainly about fashion, founder Nigo opened his store "Nowhere" together with Jun Tatakashi (Undercover, anybody?) and shortly after dropped his own brand A Bathing Ape, or BAPE for short.
How big BAPE eventually became doesn't need much explanation. BAPE achieves everything that Nigo imagines, and he passes on his brand to devote himself to new projects. In the same move, several smaller brands emerge, including Aape. Aape is dedicated to the new generation and brings the typical BAPE designs in menswear for the new BAPE fans.
