Pleasures was founded in 2015 by Alex James and Vlad Elkin. The first fashion line is sold in a pop-up store in LA, the following year the "Version 4.0" collection is released, which is strongly influenced by the 90s. Speaking of the 90s, Pleasures is inspired by pop culture subcultures of the 80s and 90s, such as punk, wave, metal and grunge. For example, shortly after their launch, Pleasures become notorious for printing Kurt Cobain's suicide note on a T-shirt and selling a cap that reads "Morrissey 1959 – 2015."
There's a lot of uproar in the streetwear scene, but the morbidity is quickly explained by Pleasures founder Alex James: as a big fan of Cobain, he sees the letter as a work of art and the cap refers to Morrissey's last year on tour. Pleasures apparel is streetwear in the purest sense and thrives on artwork, wearability and occasional shock moments – just like the renowned subcultures.
